Meet Our Lead Instructor: Michael Tew
Our training programs are led by Michael Tew, a highly experienced and certified instructor with a distinguished background in law enforcement and security. Mr. Tew holds certifications as a BSIS instructor for Baton, Firearms, and Guard Card, in addition to being certified by the American Heart Association for CPR, First Aid, and AED.
Mr. Tew’s extensive experience includes his role as a former instructor at the National Training Foundation, LLC (NTF), where he trained under the late Ralph H. Scully. He currently serves as the Lead Instructor for the Security Academy Program offered by Grossmont College and the San Diego Regional Occupational Program (ROP), and is a valued member of the Advisory Board for Grossmont College’s ROP Program. Students can be confident in receiving comprehensive instruction in the proper use and carry of batons, as well as all other critical security-related subjects.
Michael’s impressive career also includes fifteen years with the Chula Vista Police Department, where he earned numerous accolades for his exceptional performance as a Peace Officer. His awards include the Outstanding Officer of the Year Award (1991), the Life Saving Award (1996), and the Auto Theft and Recovery Award (1997).
In addition to his role at SOTC, Michael Tew is the owner and lead investigator of MT Security and Investigations, a licensed private investigation firm. The Security Officer Training Center is proud to be partnered with MT Security & Investigations, offering a seamless pathway for those seeking professional private security services, both armed and unarmed.
