No guard card, no job. This is the required foundation — SOTC's BSIS-approved 8-hour Powers to Arrest and Use of Force pre-application class. One day. After this, you submit your BSIS application and start working under California's 90-day rule while the card is in the mail. The remaining 32 hours of BSIS-mandated topics (40 total) are completed within 6 months while you work. Small classes mean real instruction, not a recorded video.

California law changed. As of 2024, every security guard applicant must complete the AB2880 course — no exceptions. This isn't a loophole or an optional add-on. BSIS won't approve your application without it. Get it done here and move forward.

Stop buying courses one at a time. This package combines your guard card training with in-demand specialty certs so you're more hireable from day one — and you pay less than buying each course separately. This is how smart candidates do it.

One thousand dollars sounds like a lot — until you realize that armed guards with specialty certs earn $25–$35+/hr compared to $18–$22/hr unarmed. You could recover the entire cost in your first week on the job. This package gives you every cert that gets you hired faster, placed at better sites, and earning at the top of the pay scale from day one.
Armed officers earn $5–$15 more per hour than unarmed guards. One certification can pay for itself in a single shift. Whether you're going armed for the first time, getting your CCW, or renewing — this is where your earning power goes up.

A CCW permit is one of the most valuable personal security investments you can make. California approval rates are up — now is the time. This course covers everything required for your San Diego County CCW application: legal responsibilities, safe handling, use-of-force law, and live-fire qualification with every firearm on your permit. People who carry legally sleep better. They're also more attractive to high-paying private security clients.

Want to work armed security? This is your required course. You'll train on safe firearm handling, California firearms law, marksmanship fundamentals, and use-of-force decision-making — then qualify on the range. Pass and BSIS can issue your firearms permit.

Working a site where your firearm is visible? BSIS requires this permit separately from your standard firearms endorsement. This course covers all exposed carry requirements, legal duties specific to sworn-visible carry, and includes range qualification.

Your BSIS firearms permit has to be renewed — there's no getting around it. Miss the deadline and you can't work armed. At $75, this is the lowest-friction way to stay current. Show up, qualify, and you're good for another year. Don't let a lapsed cert cost you your job.

California requires renewal training for your CCW permit — and you can't renew without a valid certificate of completion. This 8-hour course is designed specifically to meet state renewal requirements efficiently, refreshing your legal knowledge and qualifying each firearm on your permit.

Got a new firearm or a different caliber? Adding it to your CCW or BSIS permit requires a separate qualification. This range-based course lets you demonstrate proficiency with any new caliber so you can carry it legally. Fast, focused, and done at a local range.
Every specialty cert on your resume is a reason an employer picks you over the next guy. They're also a reason you can negotiate higher pay. Most of these take just a few hours. Stack two or three and you're in a completely different category of applicant.

Taser certification is one of the fastest ways to increase your value to employers and qualify for better-paying assignments. This course covers California law on taser deployment, safe handling, live deployment practice, and the liability every officer needs to understand before carrying one.

California law requires a BSIS baton permit to carry a baton on duty — period. This course covers proper carry, defensive deployment techniques, legal authority, use-of-force protocols, and gives you the certificate you need to get your BSIS baton endorsement. Don't carry one without this.

Your BSIS baton permit requires periodic renewal to remain valid. This renewal course reviews updated use-of-force protocols, defensive tactics, and legal responsibilities — then revalidates your permit. Stay compliant, stay hireable. Don't let your baton cert expire and lose that job opportunity.

Carrying OC spray without training is a liability risk — knowing how to deploy it legally and effectively is a career asset. This 2-hour course covers California law on chemical agents, proper deployment technique, range and targeting, storage and safety, and decontamination. At $100, it's one of the most affordable skills you can add.

Improper restraint technique is one of the most common causes of liability claims against security personnel. This course teaches you how to apply handcuffs safely, legally, and efficiently — front, back, and in resistive situations. Eighty dollars could save you from a lawsuit or an assault. This is not a skill to wing.

California requires CPR certification for your guard card renewal — but more importantly, you will encounter a medical emergency in this career. Knowing what to do in the first four minutes before paramedics arrive is the difference between a life saved and a tragedy. This American Heart Association-aligned Heartsaver course covers adult, child, and infant CPR, AED operation, and first aid essentials.
We handle your BSIS paperwork so you don't have to navigate the state system yourself. This fee covers our processing and submission service.
