State-Required Training
Duration: Approximately 4 hours | Who it's for: All new California security guard applicants — required by state law, no exceptions
California requires every new security guard to complete training beyond the initial class — the use-of-force and security-officer skills curriculum many schools call the “AB 2880” course. Taking it at SOTC, alongside your guard card class, keeps all of your training with one provider, which matters under California’s 2026 single-provider rule (SB 652). It doesn't matter if you're a first-time applicant or switching careers — the law applies to everyone. At SOTC, we've integrated this course into our training schedule so you can get it done quickly and move forward with your career.
Yes. California requires new guards to complete this additional training (Business & Professions Code 7583.6). Taking it with your guard card class at SOTC keeps all your training with one provider and gets it done before you start working.
