1. Your California Guard Card
This is your license to work as a security guard in California. You complete an 8-hour training course, pass a background check, and apply through BSIS. It’s that simple. You can start working as soon as your application shows active — you don’t even need to wait for the physical card. Starting at just $85, this small step opens the door to a whole new career. 2. Your BSIS Firearms Permit
This lets you carry a firearm while on duty as a security guard. Armed guards earn much more — between $20 and $35+ per hour.
