New to security training? Here are straight answers to the questions we hear most.

You need to be 18+ and complete 40 hours of BSIS-approved training. That's the part we do at SOTC. After training, you submit your application to the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). We help you fill out every form. Your card arrives in 2–4 weeks. Most people are working in security within 6 weeks of starting class.
Training takes 1–2 weekends. After you submit your BSIS application, your card arrives in 2–4 weeks. Total time from "I'm starting" to "I have my guard card" is about 4–6 weeks. That's one of the fastest career paths in California.
The basic guard card course is $125. Full career packages with multiple certs start at $800. Specialty courses (firearms, taser, CCW, CPR) are $75–$225 each. SOTC includes BSIS paperwork filing at no extra charge. No hidden fees. The BSIS application fee (~$50) is paid separately to the state.
Zero experience needed. None. Our instructors teach everything from scratch. If you can show up, pay attention, and follow instructions — you can complete this training and earn your license. Most students start with no security background at all.
